DIY Maintenance or the Pros?

When it comes to repairing your vehicle, it may be tempted to try and save a little cash by attempting DIY maintenance and repairs. The problem is the “What if?” What if you don’t do the maintenance or repair job right? That can lead to even pricier issues later down the road. So, the money you save and then some will be going to a professional mechanic to fix the bigger issue. Our advice: at least always consult with an ASE-certified mechanic…unless it’s one of these issues:

Maintenance Issues You Do NOT Want to Toy With

There are some maintenance or mechanical repairs that you should always leave to your ASE-certified technician at Quanz Auto Body:

Computer-Related Malfunctions
Computers control nearly everything in modern vehicles from your engine and cabin temperatures to your power steering to your communications. Finding the problem with any computer-related system requires sophisticated diagnostic equipment, and most of the time, non-techs just can’t get their hands on it, at least not affordably.

“Check Engine” Issues
Your engine does a lot more than generate power to turn your wheels, and there are 100s of possible codes that could set off your “Check Engine” light. If the code shows anything other than an emissions error that you might try to troubleshoot by tightening your gas cap, take it in for professional repair.

As a mechanical shop with more than 20 years of experience, we have the horror stories to deter you from trying to do even simple fluid changes because those could go wrong. Again, if you think you’ve got the technical know-how, at least give us a call to double-check parts and materials specs.
